The Tennessee Balloon Group is a group of amateur radio operators who enjoy building, launching and retreving near-spacecraft. We are mostly from the Middle Tennessee area. The TNGB hopes to have at least 4 launches this year.

What does TABEL stand for?
- TABEL is an acronym for Tennessee Area Balloon Experimental Launch. This was borrowed
from some nice folks up in
Michigan.
How do you track the location of the balloon?
- For primary tracking purposes we use a GPS receiver that connects to a VHF transmitter
that sends the location and other telemetry to the
APRS network.
How high does the balloon get?
- Our highest confirmed balloon flight was 100,485ft, however we hope to break 110,000ft
this summer
How do you predict where the balloon is going to land before launch?
- We use a combination of modeling software, including Balloon Track, that use wind
profile information from the National Weather Service.
